SHIVU has a singular focus – Education! Having a long standing involvement in international education, SHIVU believes Africa is one of the most exciting markets in the world. To address the demand from a fast growing middle class seeking world-class education for their children, the Group will itself invest in setting up new international schools in partnership with local real estate developers. SHIVU is dedicated to delivering outstanding education at outstanding value and continues on its mission… impacting lives through education.
Not only is Africa one of the fastest growing continents, it also has the youngest demographic. By 2050, one in four people in the world will be African and its youth population is expected to reach 830 million people. A fast growing middle class and a large pool of expatriates working for global institutions is driving the demand for high quality schooling. Parents looking for a world-class education often aspire to the British education system, sending their children to the UK to pursue their studies. SHIVU aims to bring the solution 'home’.
Founded in 1414, Durham School is one of the oldest schools in the UK. Durham School’s mission is to provide its students with a complete education; one which instils in them an aspiration for achievement, a respect for others and a 'Confidence for Life'. Durham aims to provide its students with the skills required to tackle the challenges of the 21st century whilst retaining a sense of traditional values; Moral integrity, Ambition, Responsibility, and Kindness are the MARK of a Durham School education. Durham School is part of the HMC, a professional Association of heads of the world’s leading independent schools. Durham is in the top 5% of UK schools for "value added" at A Level.
SHIVU has entered into a strategic agreement to lead the opening of Durham International Schools across Africa. Every Durham International School will closely follow Durham School’s educational ethos and structure, including the House system, a wide range of co-curricular opportunities and an academic curriculum that will provide for the needs of all its pupils. Durham School will maintain very strong links with each International School, providing governance and quality oversight together with professional development and exchange opportunities.
